The Glorious Revolution, or Revolution of 1688, was the November 1688 the replacement of James II and VII as ruler of England, Scotland and Ireland by his daughter Mary II and his nephew and Mary's husband. This revolution is called 'Glorious' because it achieved its objective without any bloodshed. James II came to the throne of England in 1685.
