Assyrian Empire (Ninevah) (1 gen 1800 anni a. C. – 1 gen 600 anni a. C.)

Descrizione:

The Hittites, fierce warriors from what is now Turkey, learn to make iron weapons. They keep their new-found skills a secret. Around 1595 BC, they conquer Babylon, and for a time rule lands from the Mediterranean Sea to the Persian Gulf.

When Babylon collapsed around 814 BC, the cruel Assyrians move in. As their empire grows great their kings build splendid palaces and make huge wall carvings. Many rebellions take place against these conquerors and by 609 their empire is in a state of collapse. Nineveh is the capital of Assyria. The prophet Jonah was sent to Nineveh during this time.
Although they repent when Jonah speaks to them, the change is not permanent.
They go back to their old ways, and are destroyed 100 years later.
