Albigensian Crusade (1 feb 1208 anni – 1 agos 1229 anni)

Descrizione:

After Innocent III denounced Raymond VI for heresy and murder, he called a crusade on Languedoc to rid the region of heresy.
KEY: The Northern French who marched on Languedoc would recieve the privleges associated with a crusade to Jerusalem.

This crusade was much more likely to be a papal land grab.

Crusaders fufilled their vows after 40 days of military service. This made it difficult to hold onto conquered territory once they go home.

In 1209 Crusaders attacked two major cities and thousands were killed:

Count Raymond VI of Toulouse
King Peter II of Aragon (Spain)

Raymond had appealed to Peter II for help.
