African Americans use rap and hip hop as an outlet for the hardships they endure, and use their voice to portray messages to their communities, about their communities. For the first time on a wide scale, Black American's see hefty profits for their art, and black artists held some of the hottest songs on the charts. Many songs such as the attached "Can't Trust It" by Public Enemy spoke directly about the countries race issue in a powerful way that seemed to connect with young white listeners. Groups and individuals such as NWA, Public Enemy, Biggie Smalls, and Tupac Shakur became household names, but many white adults were still prejudice to the empowerment of the black voice.
