WW1 gave way for US manufacturing to expand in supplying the European nations. The American financial power also grew as the belligerents turned to US to finance their war expenditures.The war weakened GB industrial capacity as GB were in debt and had sold off many of its foreign assets.
In the end US was the most dominating economy and the world creditor.
