The American Revolution was a period of time where the citizens of the Thirteen Colonies grew tired with the rule of the British Empire due to exorbitant taxes and tariffs and sought sovereignty and independence by means of force.
The American Revolution was a large contributor to classical liberalism because its main driving force was the pursuit of economic freedom. Leading up to the revolution the people of the Thirteen Colonies were being forced by the ruling British Empire to buy and import certain important goods and resources from the Crown at unreasonably high prices as well as pay unreasonably high taxes to the Empire. These impositions made by the British
Empire leeched money from the growing economies of the Thirteen Colonies and caused many to struggle despite having profitable businesses and good jobs. It was for these reasons that the people of the Thirteen Colonies sought economic freedom from the British Empire and ultimately signed the Declaration of Independence, a document which, to this day, carries the legacy of classical liberalism and its role in shaping a new nation. Nowhere else can we see such a strong movement resulting in the formation of a new nation that would go on to become one of the world's leading superpowers, and all of it fueled by one of the most important principles of classical liberalism.
