- Indiana Jones negotiates with the gangster Lao Che for the Peacock's Eye Diamond
- Indy escapes Shanghai with his sidekick Short Round and the club singer Willie Scott in a cargo plane- Indy, Willie, and Shorty survive a plane crash in the Alps after their flight was sabatogued by Lao Che
- They drift down a river into India
- They find an Indian shaman who leads them to a decrepit village
- The villagers describe how their sacred stone and children were stolen by the once abandoned Pankot Palace
- A young child returns from the palace, and gives Indy an ancient manuscript. Indy believes that the sacred village stone is one of the 5 lost Sankara Stones- Indy, Willie and Shorty return to the village of Mayapore to deliver the Sakara stone and return the missing children- Indy, Willie and Shorty walk the rest of the way to the Palace after their guides are scared off
- They meet the Maharaja, Prime Minister Chatter Lal and British Captain Blumbart, where they are given a feast of strange foods
- Indy is attacked by Thuggee Assassin, and finds a secret passage leading to a hidden Thuggee Temple
- Indy attempts to steal the Sankara Stones kept by the Thuggees, but is captured after being distracted by the missing children
- Short Round is sent to work in the mines, while Ind- Indy, Willie, and Shorty are led to Pankot Palace by a few guides from mayapore
- They make camp along the way, where Indy tells the story of the old Sankara manuscript- Mola Ram attempts to sacrifice Willie, but is stopped by Indy and Shorty
- The trio go to the mines to save the slave children
- They escape through the mine cars and face off against Mola Ram and the Thuggees on a rope bridge
- Mola Ram is killed and the remaining cultists are captured by the British armyPeriodi
- Captain Blumbart and the British Troops raid the Palace and Thuggee temple
- Indy is given medicial treatment for his injuries, and his affects are returned
