January 9, 1978 Iranian Revolution begins. 7,000 protestors gather in Qom to question Shah Pahlavi's leadership. They are attacked by security forces and 5 are killed. Fatima comes to visit Maryam's family for the last time just beforehand and plants poppies.
August 19, 1978 Hundreds of protestors are shot and killed at Cinema Rex, deepening the hatred for the Shah and his law enforcement.
September 8, 1978 "Black Friday" Protestors are again fired upon in Tehran, killing at least 100, as a show of force that no matter what the law will be upheld.
October 3, 1978 Rebellion senior member Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini is deported from the country by Shah supporter and leader Saddam Hussein.
December 10, 1978 Aligned with a religious holiday, millions of Iranians protest around the country for the ousting of the Shah.
December 28, 1978 Rebel leader Shapour Bakhtiar is appointed Iranian primeminister under the Shah to try and quell the widespread unrest in the country.
January 12, 1979 Khomeini, though ousted from Iran, aids in the formation of a Revolutionary Council that successfully forces the Shah out of power.
January 22, 1979 Shah Pahlavi and his wife flee the country.
February 1, 1979 Khomeini returns to Iran and the country rejoices. Iran's troops are recalled from the towns.
February 16, 1979 The new order starts executing former supporters of the Shah, Maryam's half brother Shariar was a victim of this. Her father died at some point beforehand.
August 3, 1979 A constitution is written for the new Islamic Republic. It has the people's support.
November 4, 1979 Iran learns that the former Shah is hiding out in the US. Students storm the embassy in Tehran and take 52 Americans hostage, demanding his extradition. It is successful.
January 25, 1980 Abolhasan Bani-Sadr is elected the first president of the Islamic Republic. The Revolution ends.
September 1953 Maryam leaves Mazareh for the last time. She is 16 years old and travels home to Mashhad with Fatima for the school year. Ali gives her the book of English poetry.
August 15, 1953 A US instigated coup to overthrow democratically elected primeminister Mohammad Mosaddegh and consolidate Shah Pahlavi's power occurs and is successful. 200-300 people die as a result. Maryam's father supports the Shah. Iranian unrest begins.
August 1999, Saeed comes to live with Sara and Maryam's family after his mother, Mara, passes away and his father remarries.
November 1999, Saeed attempts suicide after being abused by Maryam and his classmates. It results in Sara's miscarriage. Her mother returns to Iran in guilt and her husband leaves on an extended business trip to New York.
1965 Maryam and Edward get married in England outside the Chelsea Registry Office.
1996 Mairy, Maryam's eldest sister, passes away and she returns to Mashhad briefly for her funeral.
Late November 1953, Maryam is banished from Mashhad by her father for her 'indiscretion', though the doctors prove she is still a virgin. Dr. Ahlavi leaves with her and Ali is severely beaten.
1934 Mairy Mazar is born and immediately engaged to her cousin Reza, who is an adult already at this time.
1937 Maryam Mazar is born, like all of her sisters her father wishes she were a boy instead. Fatima's infant son starves to death after she is forced to breastfeed Maryam instead.
September 21, 1953 It's the first week of school. Maryam's father's second wife Leila finally gives him a son. They name him Shariar. Her father is attempting to arrange her marriage to a man she doesn't know.
1935 Maryam's mother gives birth to a stillborn baby girl. It puts a rift in her parents' marriage that never goes away.
September-December, 1953 Various protests erupt all over Iran in response to the coup, they are centered in Tehran. People are very unhappy that the election was stolen. School is canceled and places are evacuated to try and keep children safe.
October 1953, Mairy's 20th birthday. Her and Maryam celebrate and she expresses her want to become a nurse. Her father hits her for the first time for rejecting the marriage proposal.
November 11, 1954 Zahedi, the primeminister installed by the Shah, sends troops to arrest the protestors and execute Mossaddegh's former cabinet. The protests end for the most part after this.
Early November 1953, Mashhad is hastily evacuated when violence breaks out surrounding the protests. Maryam is left behind by accident and rescued by Ali. He keeps her safe until her family's return, but rumors are spread that something innapropriate happened between them.
December 1951, Mairy gives birth to her third child, Shirin.
Mid November, 1999 Sara gets an update that she will still be able to have children. Maryam reaches Mazareh in Iran.
1957 Maryam has her passport photo taken at King's Road, so that she'll be allowed to travel to England.
Late November, 1999 Sara and Saeed go to visit Dr. Ahlavi, who now lives in England. He gives them insight into Maryam's childhood. Maryam meets Ali again for the first time in >40 years.
1964 Maryam and Edward are engaged and go to visit his mother for the first time, she doesn't expect his future wife to be middle eastern and the visit doesn't end well.
Early December, 1999 Sara decides to paint the saffron kitchen. Maryam starts medical work again and writes to Sara, begging her to come.
October 1989, Sara meets Julian's grandmother for the first time who immediately takes a liking to her. It creates a parallel to how badly Maryam's visit with Edward's famiy went.
June 1989, Sara gets her first teaching job in London while still in college. Her and Julian start dating.
1966 At some point during this year Sara is born.
Late December, 1999 Julian finally returns from his business trip. Sara decides to go to Iran to find her mother.
January 8, 2000 It is the beginning of Eid, Sara makes it to Iran and confronts her mother. Edward gives up on his marriage and moves back to Whitby.
January 9, 2000 Bijan's mother dies of illness, Sara and Ali confront each other. Her and her mother go to the ancient fertility shrine. Sara is pregnant.
January 10, 2000 Ali, Bijan, and Farnoosh rescue Sara and Maryam from the shrine after they get snowed in. Men show up for Bijan since he no longer has a guardian and attempt to sell him into a work camp, which Ali and Maryam stop. It is implied that Ali will adopt him.
January 11, 2000 Sara, Maryam, and Ali leave Mazareh for Mashhad to visit her grandfather's tomb and those of her relatives. Shirin disapproves of their relationship.
January 12, 2000 Sara learns the full extent of Maryam's trauma and they both make peace with it. They get to the mosque in Haram and pray at the family tomb.
December 24, 2000 Sara is almost at the point of giving birth to a healthy child. Maryam decided to stay in Iran with Ali. They're celebrating Christmas and thinking of each other.

December 7, 1941 America decides to become involved in WW2 after the Pearl Harbor attack, my grandfather goes on to fight in it.
September 2, 1945 WW2 officially ends after Japan surrenders, ending the last fighting in the Pacific theater.
November 22, 1984 Cabbage Patch dolls have sold out everywhere since their initial corporate release in 1983. Justin and Jacob really wanted them but they were expensive and unavailable. My mom entered a contest put out by the company to win one, and they ended up sending us dolls for all 3 of my siblings!
September 12, 1981 The Smurfs animated series airs its first episode. Justin is obsessed with Papa Smurf from the time he is born.
1995 The Time Shaft ride permanently closes at Kings Dominion after someone got eviscerated on it while my mom was working there (she swears it happeneed but I can't find any news stories to confirm).
1997 Justin and Jacob both work at Mcdonalds after school, Justin has to wear the Hamburglar mascot costume though and is frequently kicked by children (lol).
April 1, 1963 General Hospital starts airing on ABC, it is still airing today and is currently the longest running soap opera. My grandma watched it, my mom watched it, and now I watch it.
1927 The first Mr. Hotdog restaurant opens in Michigan and quickly becomes a chain. The only one left today is in Bay City where my grandparents live. It's a big tradition to eat there when we go to visit, and at one point we had it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
August 27, 1991 Pearl Jam's album Ten is released, starts Justin's grunge rock era.
December 31, 1991 The Soviet Union collapses after the failure of the Cold War, along with economic pressure and lack of military support.
September 4, 1998 Google is launched as one of the first real search engines, and quickly becomes the dominant one. I'm not allowed to use it until 4th or 5th grade.
September 13, 1996 Tupac dies in a drive-by shooting, the killer isn't found until almost 30 years later and there are still many conspiracies surrounding the series of events.
June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre occurs after 2 months of protests surrounding political corruption and general discontent in the populace. My boyfriend's dad, who was there at the time, said at least 1000 people got absolutely crushed by tanks and that it took days for troops to clean up. They were primarily highschool and college students.
July 5, 1996 Dolly the sheep becomes the first organism to be successfully cloned.
April 26, 1986 Chernobyl nuclear meltdown happens, which the USSR tries to keep under wraps, leading to the deaths of over 50,000 people from radiation.
August 26, 1974 My dad attends a John Denver concert in California that ends up being recorded live and turned into the 'An Evening With John Denver' album. We've listened to it on long road trips ever since.
1978 My mom and her oldest sister Judy go on an extensive religious tour of Europe and the Middle East in relation to Judy's college classes. They see the Shroud of Turin in Italy during the last time it was publicly displayed, meet the Pope, and manage to get as far as Jerusalem. They have lots of dangerous experiences.
June 10, 1953 Daughters of Saint Paul nunnery is established in Boston, Massachusetts. 3 of my aunts go on to be nuns there, one of which still is today.
1997 Distant relatives found the Holocaust Museum of Richmond.
1930 The houses on Kawkawlin River Dr., Michigan are built. It's where my dad and his siblings all grow up. Kawkawlin is regarded as a "poor" area of Michigan for a few decades, him and his siblings were frequently referred to as 'river rats' because of this.
1995 My parents get the permission to build our home in Koyoto Ct., Chester, and move into it after from a nearby trailer park.
1989 The Koyoto Ct. neighborhood where we'll come to live starts being built. The owner's wife is Japanese and he wants to remind her of home, so all of the neighbor- hoods in the development were supposed to have Japanese-themed names (ex. Kyoto), however, the street company and Chester board at the time were racist and purposefully mispelled all of them on the signs. They're never fixed.
1979 Harbor East Village trailer park is established, my parents and siblings will move there sometime in the late 80's from Kentucky.
1984 My dad works up enough money and resources to start his business, South Eastern Truck & Trailer.
May 3, 1975 Kings Dominion opens to the public, my mom and siblings all go on to work there in the 90's to early 2000's.
1965 John Glenn highschool in Bangor Township, Michigan opens, it's where both my parents end up graduating from.
October 27, 1920 My grandmother's family farm is built in Mancelona, Michigan. It is originally started by her parents and grandfather, the Mussers, who name it 'Musser Farm'. Her three oldest siblings move with the parents to the property while the rest are born there. They all grow up as poor subsistence farmers.
October 24, 1929 Stock markets crash and banks fail around the country, starting the Great Depression. My grandma on my dad's side never recovers from how this affected her family, and has issues with hoarding, paranoia, and distrust of the government for the rest of her life.
1939 The Great Depression ends on the cusp of WW2.
1932 The first 'Hooverville' pops up in Anacostia, Washington, as a consequence of the rising homeless population from the Great Depression. These are shanty villages often along bridges or railroads where people would gather in hopes of food or work. The term was coined as an insult against Herbert Hoover, who was president at the time and largely blamed for the whole thing.
March 12, 1947 The Cold War begins and essentially lasts until the collapse of the Soviet Union. It begins in response to a need to stop the enforcement of communism in Russo-European countries, and to see who could become a nuclear powerhouse the fastest.
June 25, 1950 The Korean war begins when tensions erupt across the Korean Peninsula between differering ideologies. Not everyone is willing to live under a communist dictator anymore after WW2, and the country ends up being split in half.
November 1, 1955 The Vietnam War begins under much the same pretenses as the Korean one, however, it ends in genocide rather than independence.
1950 Largescale decolonization efforts begin for European- owned territories wanting independence after WW2, for the most part it is peaceful. Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Algeria, Libya, Ghana, Morocco, and Tunisia all become independent countries over the next 6 years.
December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat on a segregated bus to a white passenger, sparking the Montgomery Bus Boycott and questions on racial equality.
Mid 1960's At some point during this time my dad's sister Georgia drowns as a toddler in a bucket of water. It brings up concerns of open bucket safety, but infant safety warnings don't become common place on them until 1994.
February 8, 1951 The first cancer cells are cultured after being illegally sampled from deceased patient Henrietta Lacks, leading to ground- breaking cancer research. Her infinitely replicating cells are still used for study today.
1955 The first houses are built on Boy Scout Rd., Bay City Michigan. It's where my grandparents move to after both of their family farms fall apart.
June 7, 1953 Queen Elizabeth II is coronated ruler of England.
August 12, 1988 The album 'Hangin' Tough' skyrockets the band New Kids on The Block to fame, they become my sister's childhood idols.
October 14, 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis occurs, leading to a 2 week standoff between the US and Russia over weapon capability.
July 2, 1964 The Civil Rights Act is passed, prohibiting race based discrimination of any kind and forcing the integration of public schools.
November 22, 1963 President John F. Kennedy is assassinated during a promotional campaign for his next presidential term.
December 9, 1965 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' airs for the first time on public television. This and the Great Pumpkin are the two most prominent holiday movies of my childhood.
August 15, 1969 Woodstock, the three day music celebration in opposition to the Vietnam War occurs, attracting nearly 500,000 attendents. My dad and his brothers try to go but can't make it through the crowds and traffic.
July 2, 1937 Amelia Earhart mysteriously disappears during her attempt to become the first pilot to fly around the world. She is later declared dead without a trace.
1934 Centuries of unsustainable farming practices in the US result in a decade long Dust Bowl event, devastating the Great Plains region.
August 21, 1959 Hawaii becomes the 50th and final state to join the US, they were essentially forced. However, it does give them more political and economic power than they had before.
September, 1957 Troy files a complaint against against the garbage company he works at for discrimination, in hopes of becoming a truck driver rather than a dumper.
1904 Troy Maxson is born, and becomes 1 of 11 siblings under his poor, abusive, sharecropper father. They're all put to work as soon as they're able.
1914 Rose is born. She will grow up scared to be independent due to her own disfunctional homelife.
May, 1957 Alberta moves to Pittsburg from Florida, where her and Troy meet at a bar. Their affair starts soon after.
July, 1941 Troy contracts pneumonia and has his first vision of death. In a sickened coma he fights with the grim reaper for three days until it gives up. He lives, but it promises to return.
1923 Lyons Maxson is born from Troy's girlfriend at the time when he's 19. Though they manage to survive homeless for a while she cuts contact with Troy after he goes to prison. Lyons never really grew up with a father and Troy never made an attempt to look for him after his release.
1942 No one will lend Troy credit to buy a house, except a really sketchy lawyer who he thinks is the devil in disguise. Troy is still paying him interest 15 years later to stay away, even though the bill was likely paid off long ago.
1911 Gabriel Maxson is born. He is one of the few (possibly the only) of their eleven siblings that Troy keeps up with and looks after well into adulthood.
Mid 1942 At some point during this year Gabriel got severely injured during the war, resulting in a permanent mental handicap. The government gave him $3000 in reparations, which ended up going to Troy since Gabriel was declared mentally unsound. They use it to buy furniture for their house and pay other bills rather than save it for Gabriel. Troy still feels guilty about it, and houses Gabriel for free to try and make amends.
1956 Gabriel decides to move out of Troy's house despite their misgivings to try and become more independent. His new landlord, Ms. Pearl, understands his situation and puts extra effort into looking after him as a tenant. Though he wasn't able to contribute much to the household, his absence ends up making money a lot tighter for Troy's family.
October, 1957 Troy's affair with Alberta is still ongoing and he decides to build a fence around their yard. Tensions between him and Cory start to rise surrounding Cory's potential career in football and college aspirations.
1940 Cory Maxson is born, he is Troy and Rose's only child. Troy is determined to make sure he doesn't grow up to be like him, but never seems to go about it in the right way. He somewhat views Cory as a 'do-over' compared to Lyons.
1946 Troy gets rejected by the MLB during tryouts. He believes it's purely a race- issue since there were very few African American pro players back then, however, he was also likely rejected due to his age (over 40) and past criminal history. It ruins his view of sports in general.
Mid October, 1957 The workers union handles takes Troy's issue and he ends up being promoted to driver. Cory, though ordered to quit the football team by his dad, is still sneaking off to play football while maintaining his grades. Troy sends away the recruiting agent for his disob- edience when he finds out. For once Lyons returns the money Troy lent him.
1941 Bono and Lucille get married. They're both poor but manage to get an apartment together in the slums, where they live for the next 6 years.
1912 Troy's mom finally gets tired of her husband's abuse and runs off during the night, aban- doning him and his siblings. They never see her again.
1920 Troy's dad found him having sex with the neighbor's daughter as a teenager. They get into a fist fight and Troy almost dies stopping his dad from raping the girl. He leaves home after this at 14.
Mid 1920 Troy eventually makes it to the city of Mobile where he lives homeless under a bridge for the remainder of his childhood. It's where he meets his first girlfriend and where he turns to crime to support himself.
1924 Troy takes part in a botched robbery while trying to make money to support his girlfriend and Lyons, ends up killing a man and gets sent to jail for the next 15 years. While in jail he meets his current best friend Bono and learns to play baseball.
1939 Troy's jail sentence comes to an end, and 3 months later he meets Rose. They get married almost immediately and she becomes pregnant with Cory.
Late October, 1957 Gabriel gets arrested for disturbing the peace (having a public mental episode) and Troy pays off the cops to let him go. This has happened multiple times in the past. Bono begs Troy to end his affair with Alberta to avoid blowing his life up. He pretends not to know what he's talking about.
December, 1957 Troy finds out Alberta's pregnant and confesses the affair to Rose. They get into an argument and he comes close to hitting her before Cory intervenes. He still refuses to end the affair.
June, 1928 Alberta goes into labor early and dies, though the baby girl lives. Troy secretly makes arrangements for Gabriel to be recommitted to the psychward.
Mid June, 1958 After Alberta's funeral, Troy is left to care for his infant daughter, Raynell, who he con- vinces Rose to essentially "adopt". In exchange, she is no longer his wife and they lead separate lives under the same roof.
August, 1958 Cory graduated highschool and struggles with finding a job. Troy has become an alcoholic who both his family and friends avoid. He managed to finish the fence though. Bono bought Lucille the refrigerator she's always wanted, as a representation of their love. Cory and Troy get into a fist fight, which Cory loses, and he leaves home for good.
1959 With no home, money, or real aspirations for the future left, Cory goes off to join the marines.
1965 Troy passes away suddenly, seemingly from a heart attack while "battling the devil". Despite their rough relationships everyone comes together again for his funeral, including Cory. Cory reveals he's engaged.
1961 Troy retires from the garbage business. His body is breaking down rapidly from old age and alcoholism. Lyons and his long-time girlfriend Bonnie break up.
1964 Lyons gets arrested for street gambling and sentenced to three years of work house labor. His lawyer gets it negotiated less though. He says he'll gamble again when he's free.
