Freedom Riders take two buses to the deep south and were caught up to by klansmen. The first bus was caught on fire, the second bus was stopped and children were beat.

The Ku Klux Klan plant bombs on the 16th Street Baptist Church. Four girls were killed and 22 others were injured.
"Bloody Sunday". 600 people are led from Selma to Montgomery and are met by Alabama State Troopers. They were driven back by billy clubs and tear gas. 16 were hospitalized and at least 50 others were injured.
