Irish in Hawaiʻi

It is important to know that the Irish who came to Hawaiʻi in the 19th century came as individuals, and not as contract laborers, through family, or geographical ties. Nor did they come during the years of the Great Famine in Ireland. Although, the Irish who came to Hawaiʻi in the later 19th century from Boston, New York, Canada, or Australia were likely descendants of Famine immigrants (Conrad, 1999, p. 378).
