The Maker Movement in Japan

This diagram is a timeline summarizing the main events of the Maker Movement in Japan, which was made as a material of a session "How might we make Maker Faire sustainable?" at Maker Faire Tokyo 2019 held on August 4, 2019. Following the launch of Make magazine Japanese (August 23, 2006) and the start of Make blog in Japanese (April 2, 2007), the first "Make: Tokyo Meeting" was held on April 20, 2008, as a meeting for people interested in Make. Since then, people from diverse communities that were divided have met, stimulated by each other's radical activities, and cultivated cultures while growing organically, which may be a characteristic of the Maker Movement in Japan.

これは、2019年8月4日に開催されたMaker Faire Tokyo 2019のセッション「Maker Faireを持続可能にするには？」の資料として作成した、日本におけるMakerムーブメントの主な出来事をまとめたタイムラインです。Make日本語版発売（2006年8月23日）、Makeブログ開設（2007年4月2日）に続き、最初の「Make: Tokyo Meeting」 がMakeに興味を持った人々が集まるミーティングとして2008年4月20日に開催されました。これ以降、かつては分断されていた多様なコミュニティの人々が出会い、お互いの先鋭的な活動に刺激を受け、有機的に成長しつつ文化を醸成してきたことは、日本におけるMakerムーブメントの特徴といえるかもしれません。
