Arthur Wellesley arrives in India.
Arthur's brother, Richard, was the
Governor General in India and was
able to give Arthur a high end position.Battle of Mallavelly
Much to many senior officers
annoyance, Wellesley was given
power here and proved his worth
by defeating the Mysore Kingdom.Siege of Seringapatam
On arrival they attacked at night
however failed and lost 25 men.
The next day they attacked
successfully and sieged the fortress of
Seringapatam. Wellesley secured the
rear and eventually they heard news
of the Tipu Sultan's death.Battle of Assaye
An outnumbered British force
beat a combined Maratha army
to drive them back and move
further across Southern India.Wellesley defeats Doondia Wao's much
greater army at the battle of Conagul (his
first campaign as an independant commander)War breaks out between the British
and the Mahratta Confederancy (a
loose association of princes in
central India.Battle of Argaum
11,000 of Wellesleys men defeat
30,000 enemy troops forcing the
remainder of the Mahratta Army
to take refuge in Gawilghar.Wellesley's men storm fortress
in Gawlighar and triumph. These
victories along with General Lake's
in the North forced the Mahratta
Confederacy to make peace.Wellesley knighted
