Edith Piaf was born on the 19th of December 1915 in a town called Belleville. Her parents names were Louis Gassion and Annetta Giovanna Maillard. She was also a only child and has always looked up to her parents.
1963: Edith Piaf died sadly on October 10th 1963 because of liver cancer. Also because she was involved with an alcohol and drug addictions.
February of 1916 her mother had abandoned her to go and live with her grandmother. While being there she had severe eye problems, but was recognized by her voice at a young age. By the time she was 7 she went with her dad and preformed street performances.
1932: At the age of 17 she had moved away from her father because he was an abusive taskmaster. She then met Luis Dupont and had a child that died at the age of 2 from meningitis.
1935: Piaf was discovered by Louis Leplee and he had owned a successful club called Le Gerny off the Champs- Elysees. Her nervous energy that night gave her the nickname of "The Little Sparrow". She was popular enough to then have made 2 albums that same year.
1945: Piaf had singed and preformed the song called "La Vie en Rose". Which had became very popular in the US in the 1950's. It was the most famous song she had ever sung.
1960: Piaf had singed "Non , je ne regrette rien" and it became the second most famous song she had ever sung. Yet sadly it was the last song ever heard by her.
1951: Edith Piaf had been into 3 serious car crashes out of her whole life. This then lead to her having an addiction to alcohol.
1955: Edith preformed a lot in Paris through the years of 1955-1962. During this time she had gotten married to a singer named Jacques Pills. Then had gotten married to a Greek hairdresser named Theo Sarapo 4 years later.
1959: Edith was not as famous during this time and almost had retired. Then she had came up with another song and got back to her old self again.
INTERESTING FACTS: 1- She was married twice. 2- Buried right next to her daughter. 3- One of France's greatest international stars.
Edith Piaf was important to society because she influenced people to overcome all of their problems and still become something great. You might of heard of her because she was a famous singer. The contribution she made on this world was her voice and the way she sang.
