1812: The War of 1812 begins. The War of 1812 was significant because it was a decisive turning point for those living in America who were not a citizens in their struggle for the right to govern themselves.
1828: The Election of 1828 ends and Jackson is elected. This event is significant because Jackson was one of the most polarizing political figures in history and made incredibly important decisions which changed America.
1801: The Barbary Wars begin. This event is significant because the seizure of American ships prompted the country to utilize their navy for the first time; additionally, this first contact with Muslim culture solidified a long- lasting view of the culture.
1807: The Embargo Act is enacted. This event is significant because it intended to punish foreign traders by completely halting trade with them and reinforcing local industry, but ended up only destroying local business and economy.
1801: The Louisiana Purchase Passes. This event is significant because it vastly expanded American territory and solidified the nationalist idea that America was destined to expand westward.
1819: The Panic of 1819 begins. This event is significant because it was the first major financial crisis which the US experienced. It caused widespread economic failure and ended the economic growth which followed the War of 1812.

1840: The Election of 1840 ends and Will Henry Harrison is elected. This event is significant because, though his presidency was short- lived, he was the first of the Whig party to be elected. The political landscape in 1840 saw a drastic shift.
