The Stamp Act was a law passed by the British Parliament to pay for the large army that they had stationed in North America, They taxed newspaper, almond acts, pamphlets, legal documents, dice, and playing cards. The stamps were affixed to the document to show that the tax was paid. The Direct tax was not approved by the colonists and it was payable in british sterling rather than colonial currency.
