Snapchat released an update that allowed users to switch back and forth between Bitmoji and Snapchat. Bitstrips wasn't shut down, but instead began focusing exclusively on Bitmoji and integrating it into Snapchat.

Since becoming integrated with Snapchat, Bitmoji usage saw a rather huge spike, eventually becoming in the most downloaded app on the Apple Store later that year (Shaul, 2016). Almost everyone has their own Bitmoji now, and it can be used in text messages in lieu of words or it can be added to Snapchats in the form of a sticker or filter to add more emotional content and make up for the lack of verbal cues that we normally utilize in face to face communication. Regardless, the evolution of emojis and Bitmoji to this point has allowed to really maximize the use of pictures to make CMC more understandable and effective.
