24 apr 1966 anni - Mattachine Society Sip-In (1966)
Descrizione:
The Mattachine Society was previously mentioned as the first sustained national gay rights organization, founded in 1950. In their continuation of work for LGBTQIA+ civil rights, the Mattachine Society peacefully sat at a bar in New York. Under the New York Liquor Association, homosexuals were banned from this bar for being disorderly. The sip-in was led by Society president Dick Lietsch, where he and other members announced their homosexuality. They were denied service. The goal of this was to publicly draw attention to discrimination of queer people. The media highly covered the event and LGBTQIA+ issues were brought to a front focus.
