- Carnegie’s steel mill had frequent accidents, horrible air quality
- Only skilled workers were allowed to unionize, NOT unskilled workers
- But both groups come together to strike for better working conditions, pay raises
- Henry Clay Frick hired Pinkerton security guards to protect the plant, but fighting resulted in deaths on both sides
- PA govt. sends militia to control the strike/riot
- Some strikers but on trial, but none are found guilty
- After the battle, Carnegie and Frick create company town surrounding factory
