Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes, Andrew McCollum, and Eduardo Saverin in 2004 as a way for Harvard students to connect with eachother. The platform opened up to the public in 2006, and since 2009 has been one of the most visited websites worldwide.
Facebook is used by a huge demographic, but is typically associated with people who are 30+ years old.

The website is still very alive and well today, as well as having many related sites [like instagram]
