Descrizione:

The Peanuts Comic by Charles Schulz started as a comic strip published in newspapers. It is about a group of children going about their days, with the main character being the lovable loser Charlie Brown. The Peanuts comic is a great example of putting complexity into simplicity. The drawings in the comic itself look simple, but that’s one of the things that give it so much impact. All the characters in Peanuts have an iconic factor about them, with what seem to be simple archetypal traits, yet that’s what gives them so much relatability. “Charlie Brown must be the one who suffers, because he’s a caricature of the average person” - Charles Schulz. In making him more exaggerated in his traits, he becomes more relatable to people in that simplicity. While Peanuts is not the first or only comic to display this, it’s one of the most well-known, and therefore has affected the most people. Its popularity is also part of its significance, as it's marketed heavily even today, over 70 years after its first publication. One of the major things that’s significant about this comic is its clear mass marketing and how it has led it to being so well-known. Peanuts has been published in thousands of newspapers, has had movies and shows, has theme park attractions based off of it, and many products marketed after it. Snoopy is widely known as a character and has sold all kinds of merchandise. There are also projects that Peanuts has been involved in, like The Armstrong Project, and have even partnered with NASA on a Space Act Agreement. Peanuts is a significant example of the impact of simplicity and the effects of mass marketing.
