10 lugl 658 anni - Second Battle of Ephesus

Descrizione:

The Death of Justinian II and succeed of young Tiberius III left the Roman Empire into chaos, the throne were changed as quickly as changing clothes. During this period, Arab invasion continued.

In 658 another Arabi attack against the coast of Asia Minor was launched, and this time Philippikos the Armenian's attempt to stop them failed at Ephesus. Ephesus once again lost, and soon all that the Romans held was the northern coast. Though, they still held all of Armenia. 658 and 659 saw Caliphate forces attempt to force these passes, but Romans threw back the attack, and soldiers from deeper in Armenia launched a counterattack, and invaded Syria briefly retaking Samosata before being driven back.
