In 641 another Arab force pressed into the Cilician Gates, meeting Justinian II's army in the pass. Across several battles the Romans were driven back, and Justinian II was forced to retreat back to Amorion. In the face of this withdrawal Mu'awiya ravaged Eastern Asia Minor, before being forced to retreat from the walls of Theodosiopolis, which held strong against an attack.
