the fourth gyakuten saiban game and the very first one initially designed to be played on the nintendo DS. gs4 also features a new art style than the ones ported from the GBA.

this game, taking place seven years after the events of the third game, follows odoroki hōsuke as a fledgling lawyer. under the guidance of the now disgraced naruhodō ryūichi and his daughter minuki, he uncovers the crimes committed by his mentor garyū kirihito, and finds out the truth behind naruhodō's disbarment.

for several years, this would be the final game in the main series that takumi sh would personally contribute to. the game's story innovates on the formula established by the original trilogy and revisits certain tropes and aspects from the trilogy in a new light. these choices were a bit divisive and frankly unpopular with some of the fans, but i personally think they make for the most interesting game in the series.
