Resolution on the Question of Palestine

A.

1. Expresses appreciation to the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People for its work.

2. Takes note of and endorses the recommendations of the Committee, specifically paragraphs 43 and 44 of its report.

3. Notes with satisfaction that the Security Council reaffirmed the necessity of achieving a just solution to the Palestine problem for lasting peace in the Middle East.

4. Urges the Security Council to promptly decide on the recommendations endorsed by the General Assembly.

5. Decides to circulate the Committee's report to all relevant United Nations bodies and urges them to act in accordance with the Committee's implementation program.

6. Requests the Secretary-General to transmit the Committee's reports to all Middle East conferences held under United Nations auspices, including the Geneva Peace Conference.

7. Authorizes the Committee to continue promoting the implementation of its recommendations and to send delegations to international conferences as deemed appropriate, reporting to the General Assembly at its thirty-third session.

8. Further requests the Secretary-General to provide the Committee with all necessary facilities for its work, including summary records of its meetings.

9. Decides to include the item "Question of Palestine" in the provisional agenda of the thirty-third session.

B.

1. Requests the Secretary-General to establish a Special Unit on Palestinian Rights within the United Nations Secretariat to:

(a) Prepare studies and publications on:
(i) The inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
(ii) Relevant resolutions of the General Assembly and other UN organs.
(iii) The activities of the Committee and other UN bodies promoting Palestinian rights.
(b) Promote these studies and publications widely.
(c) Organize the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, starting in 1978.
2. Requests the Secretary-General to ensure full cooperation from the Office of Public Information and other Secretariat units to support the Special Unit's tasks.

3. Invites all governments and organizations to cooperate with the Committee and the Special Unit on Palestinian Rights in implementing the resolution.
