History:

1975: The CEIRPP was created in response to stagnation in the Israeli–Palestinian peace process. Its mandate includes recommending programs to enable Palestinians to exercise their rights to self-determination, national independence, and return, as detailed in Resolution 3236 (XXIX).
1977: The Special Unit on Palestinian Rights was established to support the CEIRPP by preparing studies and publications on Palestinian rights.
1979: The unit was redesignated the Division for Palestinian Rights, which now acts as the CEIRPP’s secretariat. It organizes meetings, international conferences, and maintains the UN Information System on Palestine.
Recent Developments:

The General Assembly has tasked the CEIRPP with monitoring and reporting on the situation regarding Palestine, making recommendations to the General Assembly, Security Council, and Secretary-General.
The CEIRPP supports the two-state solution, endorsing initiatives like the 1991 Madrid Conference, the 1993 Declaration of Principles, and the Quartet's Road Map for Peace, and upholds Security Council Resolution 1397 (2002) for a two-state solution.
It organizes international meetings, conferences, and commemorative activities, including the annual International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29 November, marking the 1947 adoption of Resolution 181(II) advocating the partition of Palestine.
