Ronan the Accuser, having received Mehn Erva's message, arrives on Earth, declaring it under his marital law while his special forces conduct a thorough search for Skrulls.

Fury assembles a new team of Avengers, consisting of Captain America, Iron Man, the Wasp, Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Black Widow, and the Hulk. Along with the X-Men and Paladin they are able to defeat Ronan's forces.

During the battle, US fighter pilot Carol Danvers is exposed to the full unconstrained power of the Enigmatic Prism as it is destroyed, using her as a new containment vessel and imbuing her with limitless cosmic powers.
