Recalling: Resolutions 194 (III), 302 (IV), 393 (V), 513 (VI), 614 (VII), 720 (VIII), 818 (IX), and 916 (X).

Noting:

The annual report and special report of the Director of UNRWA.
The report of the Advisory Commission of UNRWA.

Concerns over insufficient contributions to the budget.
Lack of progress in refugee repatriation or compensation, and in the reintegration programme.

Recognizing:

Host governments' support for UNRWA's mandate under international agreements and resolutions.
Directs UNRWA to continue its programme for refugee relief and rehabilitation, considering fiscal constraints.

Requests host governments to fully cooperate with UNRWA and provide appropriate assistance.

Requests area governments, in cooperation with UNRWA, to plan and execute projects supporting substantial refugee numbers.

Requests UNRWA to continue consultations with the UN Conciliation Commission for Palestine, focusing on resolution 194 (III).

Decides to maintain the rehabilitation fund and authorizes the Director to disburse funds for economic projects, contingent on host governments assuming responsibility for refugees involved.

Reiterates appeal to private organizations and governments to assist other claimants for relief.

Requests the Negotiating Committee for Extra-Budgetary Funds to seek financial assistance from UN member states as needed.

Urges governments to contribute or increase contributions to support UNRWA's programmes fully.

Notes approval of UNRWA's Gaza Strip programme continuation.

Expresses thanks to UNRWA Director, staff, specialized agencies, and private organizations for their ongoing support.

Notes UNRWA's shift from fiscal to calendar year financial periods and special audit arrangements with the UN Board of Auditors for the period from July 1956 to December 1957.

Requests the Director of UNRWA to continue submitting reports as per General Assembly resolution 302 (IV).
