Recalling resolutions 194 (III) of 11 December 1948, 302 (IV) of 8 December 1949, 393 (V) of 2 December 1950, 513 (VI) of 26 January 1952, 614 (VII) of 6 November 1952, and 720 (VIII) of 27 November 1953,

Noting the annual report of the Director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, and the special report of the Director and the Advisory Commission of UNRWA,

Recognizing that repatriation or compensation for refugees under paragraph 11 of resolution 194 (III) has not been realized and that the refugee situation remains a grave concern,

Decides to extend the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East for five years until 30 June 1960, without prejudicing the rights of refugees to repatriation or compensation;

Requests the Agency to continue consulting with the United Nations Conciliation Commission for Palestine to advance their respective mandates, particularly concerning paragraph 11 of resolution 194 (III);

Urges the governments of the region to cooperate with the Agency's Director in identifying and executing projects capable of supporting significant numbers of refugees;

Maintains the rehabilitation fund at $200 million, with adjustments for already incurred expenditures;

Approves a relief budget of $25,100,000 and a rehabilitation budget of $36,200,000 for the fiscal year ending 30 June 1955;

Requests the Director, in collaboration with UNRWA's Advisory Commission, to study and report on the assistance needed for other claimants for relief, especially children and vulnerable inhabitants along demarcation lines;

Authorizes the Director to prepare annual budgets for relief and rehabilitation in consultation with the Advisory Commission, submitting them to the Negotiating Committee for Extra-Budgetary Funds, subject to annual review by the General Assembly;

Directs the Negotiating Committee for Extra-Budgetary Funds, upon receiving the Director's budgets, to pursue the necessary funds for UNRWA's operations;

Appeals to Member and non-member States to make voluntary contributions essential for fulfilling the Agency's programmes, while expressing gratitude to religious, charitable, and humanitarian organizations for their ongoing assistance to refugees;

Requests the Director to continue submitting the reports as specified in paragraph 21 of resolution 302 (IV), along with the annual budgets.
