Kenneth Allen Holden (21yo) was last seen alive leaving his parents' home at 1067 Mercy St, Mountain View shortly before midnight on Sat., Jan. 16, purportedly to catch a bus to San Jose. He was wearing hiking clothes & boots.

Sun., Jan. 17 at 3:15pm: his battered, mutilated body found at the base of Almaden Dam
His head & left shoulder had been hacked repeatedly with a cleaver, machete, or other heavy, bladed weapon (later reported to be a hatchet, while in another instance reported as "a meat cleaver or a machete").
Blood was spattered for several feet in all directions, and splashes of blood were found as far as 6 and 10ft from the body.
He was hit numerous times w/ the weapon, and most of the attack was directed @ the left side of his head; some blows struck his shoulder.

The task force that investigated his murder was first used by Sheriff James Geary the year before in the investigation of the death of Kathy Bilek

Authorities were investigating any connections btwn the murders of Holden and Linda Diane Uhlig, who was found hacked to death in a drainage ditch in Half Moon Bay in March 1972.
His and Uhlig's deaths also resemble those of the Sleeping Bag Murders (1970)

Former San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto suspected that Holden was a victim of the Death Angels/Zebra killers. However, he is known for instating racist measures to solve the Zebra killings (i.e. stopping & searching every black man), and is likely to have blown the entire thing out of proportion
