Terri Pata, 13, was last seen on Tuesday, January 21, 1975 at Rio Linda Junior High School when her mother was called by a school nurse who said the girl was being sent home sick.

Nine days later, Terri's body was found stuffed face-first in a drainage pipe off Lone Tree Rd near Elverta Rd in Rio Linda, a suburb of Sacramento (and/or in North Highlands). She was stabbed over 27 times in her face, back and abdomen; her throat was cut; and she was raped before & after death

In 2005, Herman Lee Hobbs was linked to the murder through DNA, then sentenced to 25 yrs to life. He had already been serving a sentence of 25 yrs to life for the 2000 rape of a 15yo girl in Yuba County. In 2023, he was arrested for the 1980 murder of Holly Ann Campiglia, which he was linked to through DNA.

A probation report submitted in the Pata case said that Hobbs was a suspect in at least 5 killings. In 2001, he was charged with the 1994 shooting death of Brenda Ann Tucker in Yuba County, though a judge dismissed the case in 2002 for lack of evidence.
