15yo; At 3:20pm on Tuesday, March 3 1970, school bus driver Eugene Yee dropped Cosette off at her home at 423 Canyon Rd in Moraga, CA. Yee saw her cross the road & remove some letters from her mailbox before heading along the driveway. Yee noticed a man sitting in a truck near the residence.

3:30pm: on his return trip, Yee saw that the truck had edged closer to the driveway of the Ellison household, but the occupant was no longer inside the truck.

~4:00pm: Mr & Mrs Richard Ellison returned to an empty house. Cosette's school books were reportedly not in their usual place, and the mail had not been brought into the house.

Shortly after Cosette's disappearance, clothing was found in the area of the foothills of Mt Diablo. On March 9 1970, Mrs Ellison identified the clothing as belonging to Cosette. Her plaid skirt and one of her shoes were never found.

Jan. 1, 1971: Cosette's nude body was found partially buried in sand and gravel near Marsh Creek, in a ravine at Morgan Territory Rd near Clayton, on the eastern side of Mount Diablo / in the Mount Diablo foothills. No details were given as to how she died, and the coroner at the time stated that COD could not be determined due to decomposition.

EVENTS: New Years Day

Philip Joseph Hughes Jr is a possible suspect in her case. He has been convicted of the murders of Maureen Field (1972), Lisa Ann Beery (1974), and Letitia Fagot (1975), all in Contra Costa County. Some have suggested that Cosette could have been a victim of the Zodiac or EARONS (Joseph DeAngelo). On June 26 1970, almost four months after Cosette went missing, the Zodiac sent an envelope to the SF Chronicle containing a map, with the Zodiac's crosshair symbol centered on Mt Diablo. Cosette was found near Clayton, which was the site of a pipeline bombing on March 17, 1969, two weeks shy of a full year before Cosette was abducted. In 2011 a Moraga resident, John Eriksen, recalled a friend of his, Cosette Ellison, mentioning the blast. "She told me how it woke up her family, and how it burned the store and post office," John said. As of at least 2022, Cosette's case is still unsolved.
