28 nov 1943 anni - The Tehran Conference
Descrizione:
The Tehran Conference, codenamed Eureka, was a significant strategy meeting during World War II that took place from November 28 to December 1, 19431. The conference was held at the Soviet Union’s embassy in Tehran, Iran1. It was the first of the World War II conferences of the “Big Three” Allied leaders - Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union, Franklin D. Roosevelt of the United States, and Winston Churchill of the United Kingdom. The main outcome of the Tehran Conference was the Western Allies’ commitment to open a second front against Nazi Germany. The leaders also discussed their relations with Turkey and Iran, operations in Yugoslavia and against Japan, and the envisaged postwar settlement1. A separate contract signed at the conference pledged the Big Three to recognize Iranian independence.
Despite the military focus, the Tehran Conference saw more discussion of political issues than any previous meeting between Allied governmental heads. There were disagreements on several issues, including the postwar settlement for Germany, the establishment of a postwar international organization, and the question of Poland2. However, they were able to agree on a declaration guaranteeing the postwar independence and territorial integrity of Iran, and promising postwar economic assistance.
