1 dic 1839 anni - 1839: Ohio enacts first bilingual education law
Descrizione:
Parents could choose for their students to be educated in English, German, or both.
At the time, Ohio had a large population of German-speaking people. The predominant idea is that literacy for children was good, regardless of language. The result was that other states began to adopt similar laws that allowed for education in widely-spoken non-English languages.
