DEH: Yours 13th recd with

1. Weizmann cable undated.₁ I have not sent any cable except that which you & Felix arranged for on 6th. If you think another desirable prepare cable; but it must make clear that no publicity should be given to what occurred at my interview with Balfour or the President.₂

2. Would notin view of increase in penny papers₃ this be a good time to raise Yiddish Volk & Maccabaean subscription.

3. Send to Sir Eric Drummond at the British Embassy here a copy of Weitzman's [sic] cable, saying you do so at my request.

4. We ought to get from Krauskopf an interview or a letter & give it wide publicity if in good form.

5. I note what you say about Kirstein & Boston.₄

I trust all may go well with you there.

Sub notes:
1. Weizmann had cabled, through the British Consulate, a report of Nahum Sokolow's successful meeting with the Pope, during which the Pontiff seemed sympathetic to the idea of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Weizmann added that Rothschild had not yet received a cable from LDB, the one promised after talks with Balfour.

3. Shortages of paper and newsprint forced a wave of price increases among the penny newspapers. By 13 May, for example, all Chicago newspapers cost two cents.

4. Kirstein thought it would be best to wait until early autumn to launch a full-scale fund raising effort in Boston.
5. Mrs. deHaas was undergoing a series of operations, and the final one was scheduled for later in the week.
