Aug. 1945: The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki led up to Japan’s surrender on August 15th. The US began releasing Japanese Americans from internment camps in January 1946, and rescinded individual exclusion orders. The last internment camp closed that March, and all cases of restoration of citizenship—with most being granted—were resolved by 1959.
