26 lugl 1948 anni - Operation Shoter
Descrizione:
Operation Shoter, or Operation Policeman, was an Israeli military action during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War aimed at clearing the Tel Aviv – Haifa Road, blocked by Arabs. Conducted a week after the second truce began, the operation involved units from the Golani, Carmeli, and Alexandroni brigades. It targeted the "Little Triangle" south of Haifa, an area composed of the villages Ayn Ghazal, Ijzim, and Jaba', which had been staging points for attacks during the 1947-48 Civil War. The operation commenced on July 24, with initial attacks failing due to strong resistance and planning issues. Following intense artillery and air bombardment, the villages surrendered on July 26, leading to their depopulation. The United Nations later toured the destroyed villages and found no evidence of a massacre but deemed the assault unjustified.
