18 lugl 1948 anni - Operation Death to the Invader
Descrizione:
Operation Death to the Invader, an Israeli military offensive during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, occurred from July 16–18 in the northwestern Negev desert, aiming to link Jewish villages in the Negev with the rest of Israel after failing to do so in Operation An-Far. During the first truce of the war, the Egyptians had fortified positions along the Majdal – Bayt Jibrin road, which became the main battlefield.
The operation commenced with raids on Egyptian bases and Palestinian Arab villages including Jilya and Qazaza, and continued with unsuccessful assaults on Bayt 'Affa, Hill 113, Kawkaba, and Huleiqat, but ended successfully with the capture of Hatta and Karatiyya, defending against an Egyptian counterattack before the second truce commenced.
This operation followed extensive Israeli settlement efforts in the northern Negev, aiming to secure and connect these isolated Jewish enclaves with broader Israeli-held territories. Despite facing well-entrenched Egyptian positions, the operation highlighted the strategic importance of maintaining links within Israeli-controlled areas and disrupting Egyptian lines.
