Descrizione:
The Charge at Irbid, part of the Sinai and Palestine Campaign in World War I, occurred on September 26, 1918. This event followed the Battle of Megiddo, marking a key moment in the Allied forces' pursuit of the retreating Ottoman Army towards Damascus. The charge involved the 2nd Lancers of the 10th Cavalry Brigade, 4th Cavalry Division, who attacked the Ottoman garrison at Irbid.
During this period, the Ottoman Seventh and Eighth Armies were retreating from the Judean Hills towards Damascus via several routes, while remnants of the Fourth Army retreated along the Pilgrims' Road through Deraa. The 4th Cavalry Division, positioned at Jisr el Mejamie and Beisan, was tasked to intercept these forces. In Irbid, the 2nd Lancers launched a charge but faced a strong Ottoman counterattack, leading to their defeat. By the next morning, the Ottoman forces had withdrawn from Irbid, continuing their retreat towards Damascus.
