19 sett 1918 anni - Battle of Tulkarm
Descrizione:
The Battle of Tulkarm, part of the larger Battle of Megiddo during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign of WWI, began on 19 September 1918. It marked the start of the Battle of Sharon, and led to the destruction of one Ottoman army and the retreat of two others. The British 60th Division, supported by heavy artillery and naval gunfire, broke through the Ottoman front line near the Mediterranean coast. This victory at Tulkarm was crucial in the Final Offensive, leading to the capture of strategic locations and thousands of prisoners, extending from the Judean Hills to modern-day Turkey's border. Following the battle, the Desert Mounted Corps pursued the retreating Ottoman forces to Damascus, which was captured six days later. This set the stage for the signing of the Armistice of Mudros, five weeks later, with Aleppo also captured by then. The battle demonstrated effective combined arms tactics, significantly contributing to the eventual Allied success in the region.
