The Battle of Haifa occurred on 23 September 1918 during the final stages of the Battle of Sharon, part of the larger Battle of Megiddo in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign of World War I. This battle saw the Indian 15th (Imperial Service) Cavalry Brigade of the 5th Cavalry Division, part of the Desert Mounted Corps, successfully attack and capture the strategically important towns of Haifa and Acre from the Ottoman Empire. Positioned at the northwestern edge of the Esdraelon Plain, approximately 40–50 miles from Sharon, these victories were crucial in undermining the Ottoman positions, leading to the eventual retreat of remaining forces towards Damascus.

The offensive began after British forces had outflanked the Ottoman Eighth Army along the coast, capturing their headquarters at Tulkarm and other key positions. The 15th Cavalry Brigade, comprising units from the princely states of Jodhpur and Mysore, led the assault on Haifa. They overcame a well-defended rearguard with machine guns and artillery positioned on the slopes of Mount Carmel. This aggressive maneuver resulted in the capture of over 1,350 German and Ottoman prisoners, multiple artillery pieces, and machine guns, securing a strategic victory with minimal casualties. This engagement is commemorated annually as Haifa Day by the successors of the participating regiments.
