The Battle of Sharon, part of the larger Battle of Megiddo, unfolded between September 19 and 25, 1918, during the final stages of the Sinai and Palestine Campaign in World War I. The battle stretched from the Mediterranean Sea eastward to the Rafat salient in the Judean Hills. The British-led Egyptian Expeditionary Force (EEF), including XXI Corps with a French brigade-sized detachment, faced the Ottoman Yildirim Army Group's Eighth Army. The Battle of Sharon saw the Desert Mounted Corps exploit a front line gap, sweeping through the Plain of Sharon to the Esdraelon Plain, significantly impacting Ottoman communication lines. Concurrently, the Battle of Nablus involved the XX Corps attacking Nablus, with Chaytor’s Force maintaining the right flank in the Jordan Valley and subsequently moving to capture bridges and fords across the Jordan River. This led to further engagements including the capture of Es Salt and Amman after the Second Battle of Amman. The battle began with a substantial bombardment, followed by a coordinated attack by XXI Corps which breached Ottoman front line defenses at several points, allowing cavalry forces to advance into strategic rear areas. The engagements were characterized by the use of large formations and pre-planned maneuvers typical of set-piece battles of the era.
