A young white mob in Notting hill, London went out after a pub brawl on a "nigger hunt". This started the Notting Hill riots which carried on until 5th September.

In the 1960s, the total inward migration was 1.25 million and outward 1.92 million migration. Notting Hill was a heavily diverse part of London with many people from the Caribbean.

The police were unprepared, lacking experiences with race riots.

One reporter heard a speaker from the Union Movement was urging people to "get rid of them" (immigrants). This showed that trade unions did not support immigrants working-most likely for the fear that it will decrease wages.

The leader for the party British Union of Fascists, Oswald Mosley, used the riots to promote repatriation (returning someone to their place of origin) in the 1959 election.

R.A.Butler (Deputy Prime Minister) promoted consideration for what started the riots. However the cabinet were not interested in any legislation.
