1 gen 1961 anni - Women in work rose
Descrizione:
There was more women working then there was in 1951 but only from 26% to 35%. There was still a socially conservative attitude for women to work for the family.
The average age of marriage for women was 21 and 75% of women were married.
Trade unions did not support women working as they believed that it would lower wages.
Between 1957 and 1959, the number of households with a washing machine increased by 54% and the number of refrigerators increased by 58%. This made work easier for women at home as washing clothes used to take the whole day and the groceries would have to be done everyday.
Despite this women liberation did not improve during the 1950s.
