18 nov 1618 anni - The Headright System
Descrizione:
The headright system was a land-grant method used in the Virginia Colony during the 1600s to encourage settlement as well as the importation of labor. It granted colonists who could pay their own way across the Atlantic a parcel of land (usually about 50 acres), and additional parcels for each person (indentured servant, family member, etc.) they brought over, thus incentivizing the wealthy to sponsor the migration of indentured servants.
