1 gen 1521 anni - Francisco de Chicora

Descrizione:

Francisco de Chicora was a Native American from the region now known as South Carolina, who was captured and enslaved by Spanish explorer Lucas Vázquez de Ayllón in the early 16th century. Ayllón took Francisco to the Caribbean, where he was baptized as Francisco and became a servant to Ayllón's family. Francisco accompanied Ayllón on his expedition to establish the ill-fated colony of San Miguel de Guadalupe, the first European settlement in what is now the United States. During this time, Francisco served as an interpreter and guide for the Spanish explorers. However, the colony failed due to disease, famine, and conflicts with indigenous peoples, and Francisco's fate after the collapse of the colony is uncertain. His experiences illustrate the complex and often overlooked role of Native Americans in the early history of European exploration and colonization in the Americas.
