26 sett 1960 anni - First Televised Presidential Debate
Descrizione:
The presidential debate is a common tradition of the United States, completed for the purpose of facilitating the democratic process. For the first time in history, a presidential debate aired on television. Post WWII, the television became popular as the war economy enabled common folk to afford sets, and as they became more popular, more groups - namely government - aired events; by this time there were enough people watching television to make airing the debates reasonable. For the first time, people could see the debates live, en masse, and judge more than the words of the character in the paper - now, they could scrutinize body language, character, and other personality traits for themselves, without biases through editors or middlemen. From then on (for a while at least), people could see events directly - Vietnam, protests, the Iron Curtain - and get the gory details themselves.
