Janice Mirikitani was a Asian American poet and activist. She was very into writing because it helped her deal with and recover from sexual abuse in her teenage years. She went to UCLA and got a Bachelors in Arts. While there, she discovered the want to bring change to the world after dealing with discrimination in college. She joined the Asian American Political Alliance, she also joined Third World Communications. Combining her love of writing with her dream of social justice. She co-founded Aion, one of the first Asian American Magazine. Later, she was named second best poet in San Francisco, and was awarded Woman of the Year in the California State Assembly.
