Bohemond gathered around 30,000 men for a crusade against the Byzantine Empire. He even received the support from Pope Paschal II. When Bohemond arrived at Europe he was treated as a hero and so would easily sway the narrative of a supposed betrayal from the Byzantines during the First Crusade.

Alexius cut the Crusaders supplied lines and the siege broke in 1108. Bohemond had to accept the Treaty of Devol in which Antioch would be a part of the Greek patriarch. However as Bohemond never returned to Antioch and the ruler of the city was Tancred, the agreement was not implemented. Tancred assert contol over Latakia and Cilicia.
