1 gen 1400 anni a. C. - Battle of Jericho
Descrizione:
The Battle of Jericho, as depicted in the Biblical Book of Joshua, marked the initial clash in the Israelites' campaign to conquer Canaan. According to the narrative, the walls of Jericho collapsed after the Israelites circled the city once a day for six days, and seven times on the seventh day, while priests blew their horns and the people shouted. Despite this account, excavations at Tell es-Sultan, identified as biblical Jericho, have uncovered no evidence of a city from the relevant time period. Scholars generally agree that the story likely originated as nationalist propaganda by later kings of Judah to assert claims over the territory of the Kingdom of Israel. Due to the lack of archaeological support and the complex composition and theological motivations of the Book of Joshua, some archaeologists, like William G. Dever, consider the tale of Jericho's fall to be entirely fabricated.
