1 ottob 1183 anni - Saladin attacks Kerak

Descrizione:

Saladin attacked Kerak in Transjordan with his brother al-Adil during the removal of Guy of Lusignan as a regent. Even as Kerak was being attacked Baldwin IV held meetings of who would be the new heir. Sybilla's son Baldwin V was to be the new king, at four-years old.

Baldwin IV and Raymond II of Tripoli went to Kerak with Raymond II of Tripoli being the regent of the force. Saladin was still struggling with Kerak's harsh and dry terrain. When the Christian force got there the Muslims retreated.

With a split between Baldwin IV and Guy of Lusignan causing disunity in 1184, Saladin attacked Kerak again. When the leper king met Saladin the Muslims once again retreated and set up camp up North. When the franks did not attack the camp, Saladin returned to Damascus.

Saladin's jihad was targeted and planned to have low risk jabs at the Franks to weaken them rather than full sieges. Also, the areas of interest have significance:

Transjordan: main route from Egypt to Damascus, used for pilgrims and trade

Galilee: main Latin threat to Damascus.
